Cary Grant His Girl Friday, Cary Grant on Film, Penny Serenade, Charade DVD. Casablanca DVD Movie Hollywood Classics
Penny Serenade
Penny Serenade is the story of Julie and Roger Adams. It is an honest look at a happy, if not exactly peaceful period, in the domestic life of a newspaperman and a former salesgirl in a music shop. Irene Dunne and Cary Grant, one of Hollywood's best comedy teams, are perfectly cast. Neither has any difficulty in sliding from fast comedy to a heartbreaking scene or ending a poignant moment with a laugh.
His Girl Friday
This hilarious re-working of The Front Page by Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur sees Grant as the savage editor and, in a switch, the reporter played by a scheming Rosalind Russell. This version adds the twin lures of sex and romance. The film moves at whirlwind speed, as director Howard Hawks instructed his actors to overlap their lines, so much so that at times everyone seems to be talking all at once. Hawks also had his cast move at twice the normal speed so the screen looks frantic from scene to scene, thus conveying the urgency of the new world he was depicting. It's undoubtedly Cary Grant's greatest comedic role, providing once again the amazing versatility of this Hollywood legend.
Cary Grant on Film - A Biography
Cary Grant was one of the most beloved and popular stars of the studio era. For 30 years, in over 70 films, Grant left an indelible impression on the public consciousness. Women dreamed of having him. Men dreamed of being him. This documentary takes us on a trip through Grant's legendary career. Packed with film footage and nostalgic photos, it portrays Grant's singular blend of wit, charm, and sophistication that gave us all an ideal to aspire to.
Charade
This sophisticated comedy-mystery in the style of Hitchcock teams Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn together. Hepburn portrays Reggie Lambert, who meets Grant on a skiing trip in the Alps. When she returns home to Paris, she finds her apartment ransacked, her husband dead and a group of crooks searching for a fortune her husband had and they're convinced she's hiding it. As Hepburn avoids the sinister group, she becomes fond of Grant who comes to her aid. But, one by one, each gang member is murdered, making it more difficult for Hepburn to distinguish the good guys from the bad ones. |

Casa De Los Babys DVD. Casablanca DVD Video A group of six women from the United States, each of whom wants to adopt a baby, are checked into a hotel in South America waiting for the paperwork to go through. As their wait stretches on for weeks, they each get to know each other, sharing their hopes and fears. Meanwhile, the film explores every layer of people who are effected by the industry--from the teenage girls who give their babies up for adoption to the nurses that care for them as they're being assigned to new mothers. The local homeless boys sniffing paint in the street clearly don't receive the parenting they deserve, and yet the hotel staff dealing with the wealthy U.S. mothers-to-be sees a different side of the story--these women may not make for competent moms. |
