James Chance: Chance of a Lifetime DVD Movie
James Chance: Chance of a Lifetime Description: "The No-Wave scene that enlivened the New York City rock underground in the 1970s produced many charismatic figures. James Chance was one of them, producing a coruscating din with his band The Contortions, and significantly altering the musical landscape in the process. The Contortions laid down a frenetic punk-funk backing to Chance's unique saxophone playing and vocal stylings. They even made it to the hallowed grooves of the NO NEW YORK compilation, an era-defining artifact which embodies all the willful experimentation and addictive energy of the scene. Here, Chance takes a reformed Contortions to the stage for a show in 2003. With their sound aped by many since their demise, Chance decided it was time for a little payback, put the band back together, and tore up stages once again. Among the tracks are No-Wave anthem "Contort Yourself," "Roving Eye," "King Heroin," and many others."
