The film's hero, a rumpled young man in his twenties, "FH" (Billy Crudup, Almost Famous, Without Limits) bounces though his days perpetually high, with the shaky center of his universe, his beloved on-again, off-again girlfriend Michelle (Samantha Morton, Sweet and Lowdown).
